Cohabitation with God

Graham Cooke, Language of Promise page 27.

"Much of the terminology surrounding revival is geared to events and special circumstances. It is largely "visitation" terminology. We are looking for the God to come in a move of the Spirit. Yet the language is one of abiding, a habitation of the Spirit being built inside each of us.

I reality, revival is not about a large numbers of people discovering the King and His kingdom. Something that is dead spiritually cannot be revived, it must be born again. Revival is for the church, not the world. We must wake up from this sleep.

Revival has three stages; we must return to our first love and learn to be abandoned to His grace and power. Secondly we must be revived in our compassion for the lost; to give our lives in service of the kingdom. The outcome of these two initiatives will increase the final stage reformation where the world will begin to respond to the power and the glory of a risen Lord, cohabiting His people....

Learning to cohabit with God takes time. The pressure of ministry is intense: it can stress us out, make us sick, even kill us, unless we know how to rest in the Lord. It takes discipline to bring ourselves to a place of peace before God, but it is absolutely necessary to a place of peace before God, but it is absolutely necessary to do so. It has taken years of practice for me, but, on most days, I can bring myself to that place of peace in five or ten seconds. It no longer matters what is swirling around me or threatening me, I can still myself before God. I have to: I need to be quiet to hear His voice. God loves to speak in whispers. He rarely answers prayers at the same decibel level at which they prayed.
"Father!" We can shout at Him. "I need to hear Your voice!"

"I know," He whispers back.
"Speak to me," we bellow at the top of our lungs.
"I am," He whispers.
"I need to hear Your voice today!"we blare.
"Shut up and listen," He whispers.
"Be still, and know that I am God," says Psalm 46:10. Meditation is another avenue towards cohabitation with God. The western church must learn to meditate, setting time aside to think deeply about God. It doesn't have to be long: just fifteen minutes or half-an-hour but the more you do it, the more time you'll want to give to Him. I love meditating."

How can I prepare for an increase in Power and Authority?

Excerpt from my journal...I copied it down from a book" shifting shadows of the supernatural"...something like that..unfortunately forgot the name...sorry, I'm not trying to plagerize, but this is awesome stuff!!

God, this is my prayer... I want this... Power and authority that comes from your heart...

1)Power motivated by love and compassion to release salvation, deliverance, and healing.

2)Power expressed with humility, deferring to one another's gifts, willing to learn from others, aware that the gifts flow from God as He wills.

3)Power expressed with restraint, not under compulsion to the needs and distractions of men or the desire to express flashy revelation or miracles that draw attention to them.

4)Power expressed with joy, operating from a basis of rest rather than exhaustion which can lead to delusion, filled with the presence of the Lord.

5)Power that does not dominate or control but is revealed in vulnerability rather than bravado.

6)Power that freely gives and sets people free rather than binding in some obligation(financial or emotional) to the minister or ministry.

Randy Clark's Prayer:
"God , I want your power. (But don't just pray for power) you must also pray, God I want your heart, your love for the poor, the broken and the sick. I want to be able to stand in line for hours and pray and enjoy it. (Ministry is. Not about a power kick. It's about entering into the heart of God and feeling His love for the people. That's what sustains you for hours and hours of ministry. It's the love of God and obedience to the call."

Important questions to ask myself...
1) Why do I want to experience an increase of supernatural power in my life?
2)Are there shifting shadows of loyalty in my heart evidence through my behavior and actions?
3)Am I experiencing God's manifest presence and so captivated by God's love that my life overflows with the radiant presence of God?
4)How willing am I to embrace the cross of Christ?
5)What must I do to prepare for an increase in power and authority, to take victory over the shifting shadows of darkness in my given sphere of influence at work and at home?

More Lord, I ask for an outpouring for me, for my generation! I want to see a revival that never ends!
